It's the most wonderful time of the year.....band year anyway! STATE WEEK!!!

Planning begins Thursday, October the 15th at 7:00 -
Come join in the planning for our state week activities and our state party.

What is state week? This is the week just before state competition. This is the week that the kids work extra hard in preparation for the biggest competition of the year and we show them how proud we are of them by decorating the band room with posters, give them treats after every practice and have a party for them with all kinds of finger foods, the seniors traditionally perform a skit and say something about their years in band and play lots of fun games!

State Week is November 1st- 6th.

We will meet in the band room on Sunday, November 1st to decorate.
Bring posters already made or bring markers, stickers, pictures, etc and make the posters that day. Your poster(s) can feature your student, your students section, your students graduating class, an inspiring message---anything you want. We just try to be sure that everyone is featured on a poster in some way.

The time and date of the State Party will be established the night of our planning meeting as well as the activities- don't miss out it is so much fun and truly a time to celebrate!

Mark your calendars for these dates:

2009 pennies

I am having trouble locating 2009 pennies. I thought I could go to the bank, and it would be easy to purchase four rolls. I have checked at ESB and US Bank, and they don't have any. I am going to check at a couple of more banks tomorrow. In the meantime, everyone might want to keep their eyes open for any 2009 pennies that goes through their hands.

Thanks!
Kellye

Krispie Kreme Doughnut News

Thanks to those of you selling Krispy Kremes.
We sold 331 dozen doughnuts and 14 certificates.
The band will net over $1200 from this project!!!

They will arrive at the high school by 7:00 this Friday morning, probably a little before. Those of you picking up yours will get your doughnuts and your order forms. For those that requested delivery, we will get them out as early as possible to your customers.

We will have some extras because we received some free for ordering over 300.
We usually have students who can't resist buying some as they exit the gym for homeroom. If you want to buy extras, just tell us when you pick up yours.

If you have some free time and want to help with deliveries, we'd love to have you.

SATURDAY, NOV. 7TH – SEMIS AND FINALS PARENT BOOSTER

AGENDA

(An updated schedule for this day including times will be sent out

the week of November the 1st.)

– Decorate Cars

Parents will meet in GHS parking lot facing Columbia Ave. to decorate their vehicles. Don’t forget to bring your paint markers, posters, Scottie Band car magnets, Scottie Band car flags, and anything else that you would choose to use to decorate your car for state.

– Explanation of Beaded Safety Pins and Pennies

When students have their bag check in the band room, Nina Kinslow will pass out and explain the significance of the safety pins and pennies.

– Depature from GHS

Parents pull out onto Columbia Ave. and pull over to the side with flashing hazard lights then honk horns and wave as the buses pass. At this point you may fall in line behind the trailer. The buses won’t leave until parents get on Columbia Ave. The police will lead us through Glasgow including the intersection in front of Wal-Mart without any parents left behind. We will be able to pass through any stoplights and four way stops. The route is from GHS to South Green St. turning right onto 31W. Then turn left onto Happy Valley Rd. at Five Star to Cave City. Spread the word to your families and friends so they will know that they can park along the route to show their support and cheer us on as we leave town.

- Arrival at Semis (Christian Academy of Louisville)

When the buses arrive at semis (Christian Academy of Louisville), all parents of senior band members are invited to meet at the buses for pictures. As each senior gets his or her uniform bag off the trailer and comes down the ramp, a golden dollar will be placed around his or her neck. At this time, a picture will be made of each senior with his or her parents and family. The golden dollar will be worn under their uniforms the remainder of the day. Parents of other band students are invited to come and make pictures of their child as well so remember to bring your cameras. It is a special day, and we all want to capture the memories!

- State Meal at Golden Corral

After we perform at semis, everyone is invited to join the band at Golden Corral, 4032 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY 40220 for our state meal as we wait for Mr. Bonds to arrive with the results from semis. A reservation has been made and the cost of the meal is $12.79 per person. This price includes the entire buffet (which is top of the line) and your drink.

– ON TO FINALS AT PAPA JOHN’S STADIUM

ALL THE WAY AT STATE!

final shirt order

With state right around the corner, we will be doing one final shirt order. This will give those the opportunity to purchase a long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt now that the weather is getting cooler. If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt or sweatshirt, please contact Leigh Anne Botts by October the 16th. This will allow her enough time to get the shirts printed and ready by state on November the 7th.
