BAND CAMP “SURVIVAL”Band camp is where the students will learn the music and the marching drill for the upcoming season. It involves a lot of hard work, but we like to have fun in the down time. Some tips for preparing for band camp and all that hard work are:1). EAT BREAKFAST/LUNCH…These are even served in the cafeteria every day for FREE!2). DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS (Water/Gatorade)—Water will be provided, however it is suggested that your student bring additional water or a sports drink. It gets very hot and we want to make sure your student(s) stays hydrated! 3). Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing. (please BE APPROPRIATE!)4). Wear Tennis shoes (or “athletic” shoe)—Other types of shoes will not allow you to maneuver your body in the required drill movements hardly as well.5). Wear a HAT.6). Wear and bring SUNSCREEN.7). Practice your MUSIC before you arrive. Even memorizing before-hand never hurts.8). DINNER will be provided during each night during band camp from 4:30 – 5:15. The menu is printed above. If you foresee something that you do not enjoy eating, then plan ahead and bring your own, or have someone bring you something. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE CAMPUS DURING THE CAMP SCHEDULE. THIS IS COMPLETELY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE STUDENTS. UNIFORMSThere are a few uniform items that the student is responsible for purchasing. These include the following: 2 Socks ($4.00), shoes ($25.00), gloves ($3.00) and garment bag ($5.00) Again, These items are purchased by the band student and can be kept after leaving the band. All other items must be returned to the band at the end of the student’s band career. The above listed items are to be purchased in addition to the initial $225.00 Scottie Band Fees. They will be sold on an individual need basis. These orders and arrangements will be made during band camp. Keith Vincent performs July 25th @ BOTB
Former GHS Band Director, Keith Vincent, is going to bring his guitar to the BOTB Market on July 25 to play and raise money for the Scottie Band!! All former students and band parents from the Vincent era, mark your calendars! The BOTB Market is the Bounty of the Barrens Market. It is the big farmers market organized by Sustainable Glasgow that occurs each Saturday morning, 8 - noon, behind the big BB&T bank on West Main Street in Glasgow. Keith Vincent, band director at GHS from, oh, about 1991 to 2000 or so, will be providing music and soliciting donations to go to the GHS band boosters. I certainly hope we can get the word out to former students, present students, and band parents to celebrate Keith's rare and exciting return to Glasgow. He is driving in from Henderson for this event!
Meet The Scotties!
Meet the Scotties will be August 6th. The band usually plays the fight song. I have no other details at this time.
