January "Kiltcorner" Newsletter

Message from the Director
I certainly hope that you all had a wonderful Holiday Season. Christmas is always a wonderful time to spend with family and the New Year always brings about a time to consider the "hopefuls" for the upcoming year...any resolutions yet?
I would like to take this opportunity, before we wind things back up with the second half of the school year, to remind you of a few events upcoming for the Glasgow Scottie Band. We have All-District weekend in Bowling Green, KY on the campus of WKU on January 8-10. We also have WKU Honors Band Clinic on January 22-24. We have several students involved in each of these events and hope that all goes well with their performances and travels. Coming up in March we will be having Solos and Ensembles at Warren Central High School. And in April, we will be having our Concert Band Festival Assessment at Bowling Green Jr. High School. This event is going to be a little bit different this year, because of construction on the campus of WKU. Most likely we will be performing our assessment event on Saturday April 18th and the band directors are being encouraged to extend a special invitation to any and all parents to attend the event. Not only would you get to see your child perform, but you would get to see some of the other area high school bands perform. After all, band is a "performance art", with a performance must come an audience.
Also, Pep Band is in full swing as we have several upcoming games. Be sure to check your schedule according to which games you are responsible for playing.
Again, Happy Holidays! And I look forward to realizing some of those Glasgow Scottie Band "Hopefuls" as we step into 2009!
On a musical Note!!

Fw: GMS / GHS Band Christmas Concert

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The Glasgow Middle School 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands and the Glasgow High School Concert Band will present A Christmas Holiday Spectacular at Glasgow Baptist Church on Thursday, December 18th.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands will be performing at 6:00PM with the High School to follow at 7:00PM  We will also be featuring our newly formed high school percussion ensemble on one of the pieces.  We will be playing all the great Holiday tunes that you know and love and we are also having refreshments and holiday treats afterward.  The final number on the concert will be a single presentation by all the band students grades 6 through 12--there's nothing that will come as near to getting you ready for Christmas as 200 musicians playing Sleigh Ride.

It will be a great night for all involved.  We hope that you can come out and support these students that have put great effort into this presentation.  So bring the whole family and enjoy a great night of great music brought to you by some great kids!

Admission is free...we only ask that you bring some seasonal joy to spread amongst one another!!!!!

Fruit Pickup

FRUIT WILL BE READY FOR PICK UP THIS THURSDAY, DECEMBER THE 11TH BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 3:30 AND 7:30 AT THE WAREHOUSE BEHIND DON'S RENTAL CENTER AT 303 REYNOLDS ROAD. ALL FRUIT MUST BE PICKED UP AT THIS TIME. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL KELLYE BISHOP AT 590-5305.

Also, I need a band parent volunteer to be at the warehouse between the hours of 9:00 and 3:30. I will have to be at work between those hours but will arrive as soon after 3:00 p.m. that I can. The fruit will be arriving at 9:00 a.m. The gentleman that owns the warehouse will be available at that time to let us in. Also, help from outside the band parent organization will be there at that time to help unload, sort, and load the fruit. I really feel it is necessary to have a band parent there as well so if someone would like to volunteer to help out with this, please call me at 590-5305 or send me an email at kmb@glasgow-ky.com.

Thanks!

Kellye
